Mason Betha

although I was a 2pac, BIG, Jay, DMX etc fanboy in my youth… I KCUFin LOVED Ma$e. You couldn’t tell me nuthin, I rocked wit Harlem World heavy (sorry M dot). And Murda Ma$e killed his verse on DMX “Niggas done started somethin”. He said himself the pretty boy image was Puff idea…anywho I even bought his comeback cd. BUT I aint rockin wit duke after he came back with that nigga bitch shit again. Then goin back to the ministry LMAO. So here is to an unhealthy love of a craptacular jiggy rapper! what a childhood

The Hip-Hop Hipster Label

So the new “in” label is to call the new artists with an old school vibe or dress with tight clothes or rock vintage ish is Hipster. I’m not fond of the label, but if it has to stick, oh well. I mean we had the whole TrapHop shit, and that worked out ok (not!). I mean the hipster label is wack but the artists who fall under are dope as fuck. The complaint also hasn’t been about the music, for the most part, it’s mostly about how they dress. In the homophobic world of Hip-Hop, isn’t it wild homo to worry why a ninja wanna wear skinny jeans. I mean you are the one peepin his male camel toe (no Haux Maux), all I’m worried about is if the music is hot. And some of these unfairly labeled “Hipsters” like The Cool Kids, U-N-I, Kidz in the Hall, PacDiv, Wale, ETC, are bringing hotness. So fuck what they wear. You could rock a tutu and do ballet moves, and still talk about stabbing brains with nose bones, but can’t wear skinny jeans and vintage shirts and rap about a good day. Fuck That! I know some people have a problem with someone born in 87 sayin they bringin 88 back, but why not. Just because they weren’t necessarily a product of the year doesn’t mean it wasn’t an influence and a nostalgia they wanna remember and pay homage to. For the sake of argument we can call all rap music Hip-Hop, it’s just not good Hip-Hop all the time.

R&B Sawngz

Now the whole song for the ladies thing is kinda over-rated. And its mostly poorly executed. I think there are a couple people that could plausibly make a r&b record and have it not be super cheesey and forced.

Mos Def: His singing is not bad, and he has the smooth ish on lock. I mean if you’ve heard any version of travelin man, umi says, etc you know he can go from crooner to rapper, without skippin a beat.

Phonte: I mean this MC has guested on a Playaz Circle song SINGING the hook. He did that joint as victor st clair with widimoto. His percy miracles cd was straight comedy. He sings at the shows they do. And his flow is as smooth as it gets.

I’m debating on a couple others

hip-hop you saved me

In these trying times music, more specifically Hip-Hop, has my back, as usual (literally and figuratively). So while I try to occupy my mind, I wanted to listen to some Dilla. I got to thinkin bout that Phonte Joint he dedicated to Jay Dee. It’s a great tribute, and there is a lot more than the face value of the track. He combines elements of at least 3 J Dilla joints to make one tribute track. If you are not familar with the catalog you wouldn’t know, although 2 of the songs referenced are from The Shining.

Won’t Do is the main song, Baby and Fall in Love are referenced in the outro mostly.

*Shake, the release of Jay Love Japan was unofficial but there are official versions, so idk. It was “officially” released in March but idk, im just gonna cop it.

P to the USH-A

Clipse makes other drug rap/trappers/coke rappers/Trap-Hop rappers look very stupid. They have that ish on lock. Lord Willin, Hell Hath No Fury (<<–XXL was very warranted), WGIFC vol 1-3… they run circles round these cats. Pusha T is obviously that DUDE, those who’ve yet to recognize really need to. I mean all the Wayne fans need to look to Push-a-ton. His drug rap is directly influenced by jay and Push, no 2 ways about it. And Malice aint no slouch, his mostly straight-forward delivery stays ON-POINT (point of reference: I’m Not You (last verse = homicide) and What happened to that boy). Basically, I just wanted to say how much Clipse are the shit and not many can fuck wit Mr. Ughck!!

**please click on Mr Ughck so you can hear keys open doors. Ive been obsessed since i first heard it

Untz Untz

you all know i love all things Tanya Morgan, so you must hit dondub’s spot for Suburban Sprawl, its .rar but the tracks I’ve heard are very nice. 2ndly if you haven’t heard Wale’s The Mixtape About Nothing, you are mad slackin cuz this shit right here nigga…this shit right here (c) Katt, is the TRUFFF!!! So you need these two in your life. Also the latest VPND podcast in honor of Don’s bday is ill as well. Lastly, head to 2dopeboyz for some new Che Grand, he killin it.

**i also like to apoligize for goin hard at M Dot for his distaste of The Cool Kids. If he dont like it, he don’t like it. It dont mean that he hatin.

***the CIII is better and better everytime i listen (some of it at least), more on that soon.

LEAK

so as expected the Carter III leaked. Shake has all the dope tracks at the dopehouse ((c) eighty’s baby)

Off the strength of the tracks posted by shake (cuz im not listening to the rest) it sounds dope, but i’m assuming these are the best off the whole joint anyway. I don’t see this fuckin wit CII, which despite what meka thinks, I think is a very good cd (woulda been even better sans skits and 4-5 tracks).

**WORST COVER EVER (but damn hilarious)

Hot Fire (c) dylan

I have been absolutely obsessed with 3 or 4 cd’s of late. American Gangster, Santogold, Rising Down, and In Search Of. . . Idk why but they’ve been the only thing in rotation. I normally just hop from cd to cd because of my great cd collection.(bought not stolen! and some fuckers have my shit, I’m coming for yall heads!). I’ve come to the conclusion that AG should be hailed as a classic. I mean get over the fact that Jay found a reason(excuse) to go back to drug/hustler rap. It was a genius move; American Gangster as it correlates to Shawn Carter (jay-z, whatever). 2nd, that shit is fire. The beats and rhymes are just perfect. AND FUCK YOU IF YOU DO NOT SEE JAY-Z AS AN EMCEE!!! anywho, Rising Down has the sound and feel of The Roots, but not really. 75 bars is a roots joint. I wish they would have kept birthday girl on it. It was poppy but in a good way. I mean a song about getting the stank from a newly 18 girl, come on guys, we have all had the dreams! The features kinda throw it off but its still a very strong cd. My fav tracks are Criminal and Rising Up. Wale is like my new favorite rapper (what up mandy). Next, Santogold is the shit!! I always describe her for those who don’t know as MIA for black people. lol. I think she is much better. I can’t get enough of her cd. And from the video, her performances are great. Too bad she ain’t on the bill for the LA RTB. You’ll Find a Way (remix) has taken over my life. Lastly, I love N*E*R*D. I was very vocal about going to GITD just for their performance. Their first cd is awesome (so is the 2nd but this is about the first). In Search Of.. has some great tracks. Brain, truth or dare, tape you, lapdance. the whole fuckin thing. I want the euro version since its more beats than band, but that shit is 50 bucks online and a spent all my chips, but one day I’ll own it.
